Cost reduction, sugarcane yield increase 10 - 12% thanks to Phu My NPK fertilizer
Farmers in Khanh Hoa province using Phu My fertilizer for sugarcane have achieved positive results, helping to significantly increase productivity while reducing costs.
In mid-March, we went to the sugarcane growing area in Ninh Xuan commune (Ninh Hoa town) when most of the sugarcane area for the 2023-2024 crop had been harvested. At this time, sugarcane growers in the commune immediately started taking care of the remaining sugarcane, replanting and replanting new sugarcane areas to stabilize the raw sugarcane area.
According to sugarcane farmers, if sugarcane is well cared for and fertilized, it will help ensure productivity and sugar content for the next harvest. In Ninh Xuan commune in particular and Ninh Hoa town in general, sugarcane is identified as the main crop. However, most of the sugarcane area here is grown on hills and sloping land, so fertilizer is easily washed away, and the soil is also acidic and poor in trace elements.
Furthermore, in recent years, due to complicated weather conditions, drought and little rain, sugarcane productivity has been low, affecting farmers' income. This is also a concern of the agricultural sector, local authorities, sugar factories and farmers.
In the above situation, choosing the right type of fertilizer, applying it with the right technique, in sufficient quantity according to the requirements of sugarcane and suitable for soil properties is one of the solutions to help increase sugarcane productivity in Ninh Hoa town.
Our observations in the fields of Tan Son village (Ninh Xuan commune), Ninh Xuan Agricultural Station (belonging to Bien Hoa - Ninh Hoa Sugar One Member Co., Ltd.) is supporting farmers to cooperate in taking care of sugarcane. Instead of having to use the pulling power of oxen to plow the fields, then laboriously fertilize and cover the soil, the sugar factory brings in tractors to install plowing rigs that can make 2 rows, plowing lines 25 - 30cm deep to help break the roots, clear the soil, increase the porosity of the soil and combine fertilizing and covering the soil. This not only contributes to freeing up labor, increasing sugarcane productivity but also gradually moves towards modern and sustainable sugarcane production.
Mr. Phan Kien Nghia in Binh Thanh village (Ninh Binh commune, Ninh Hoa town) has a sugarcane field in Tan Son village and said that to help sugarcane grow and develop well, it is very necessary to fertilize fully twice at the beginning of the season and from June to July when the plant grows and accumulates sugar.
According to Mr. Nghia, there are many types of fertilizers for sugarcane on the market, his family has also used many products for this crop, but in the last crop, the sugar factory supported his family to implement the Phu My NPK fertilizer model for sugarcane, which showed more positive results than other types of fertilizers because Phu My NPK fertilizer is easy to digest and dissolve in the soil environment, helping sugarcane absorb quickly. From there, the plant develops a good root system to absorb nutrients and water better, and its drought resistance increases.
“Every year, my family only harvests sugarcane with a yield of 55-57 tons/ha, but in the 2023-2024 sugarcane crop, my family has just finished harvesting and achieved an average yield of 60 tons/ha, an increase of 5 tons/ha compared to the model. With the selling price of sugarcane at about 1.1 million VND/ton, after deducting costs, my family makes a profit of more than 20 million VND/ha,” Mr. Nghia shared.
Similarly, Mr. Le Ngoc Bao, a sugarcane farmer in Tan Son village (Ninh Xuan commune) said that while many people harvested sugarcane with low yields this year due to drought, his family still achieved a yield of more than 60 tons/ha. That is thanks to his sugarcane field using Phu My fertilizer last year. With the results, after harvesting raw sugarcane, his family registered with the sugar factory to receive 40 tons of Phu My NPK to fertilize the entire 40 hectares of sugarcane left over by his family this season.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Deputy Head of Sales Department (Central Petroleum Fertilizer and Chemicals Joint Stock Company) said that recently, the PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation with the brand name Phu My NPK has approached sugarcane in Khanh Hoa province. From there, the company has conducted research and analyzed soil samples and soil quality to introduce suitable Phu My fertilizer products to help farmers increase sugarcane productivity.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, in the 2023-2024 crop year, some fields in key sugarcane growing communes such as Ninh Xuan, Ninh Thuong, Ninh Tay, Ninh Sim... people who trust Phu My NPK fertilizer products have harvested sugarcane yields that have increased by 10-12% compared to fields outside the model. The selling price of Phu My NPK fertilizer is also competitive, helping farmers reduce investment costs by 7-10% compared to using the same type of fertilizer in the area.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, due to the difficulties caused by unfavorable weather conditions in the last sugarcane crop, the Company has cooperated with Ninh Hoa Sugar Factory to continue to launch a new product line specifically for sugarcane, namely Phu My NPK 20-10-10+TE. Initially, this product has been positively received by sugarcane growers in the area, so the Company hopes that in the coming time, this product will be widely used by farmers to further improve productivity.
